US cemetery of HENRI-CHAPELLE

We need 90 min to reach the US cemetery of HENRI-CHAPELLE, where almost 8000 GI’s lay at rest. Then we continue along the north-eastern frontline of the Battle of the Bulge and admire in BULLINGEN/BUDGENBACH the monument honouring the fierce resistance of THE BIG RED ONE, so important to delay the German offensive. At Malmedy/Baugné we are honouring the 84 American Prisoners, murdered by the SS. After a lunch at leisure in Stavelot, we call at the famous Königstiger tank in La Gleize, another village where fighting has been fierce.

Our next stop is the German military cemetery of RECOGNE, here are buried almost 7000 man. We drive through Foy…where a few partially remaining foxholes are still slightly visible at the edge of the woods.
We stop at the monument remembering the military killed here, and soon we arrive at the famous MARDASSON memorial, at the outskirts of Bastogne. After having visited the memorial, you will visit the new BASTOGNE WAR MUSEUM (entrance included). In Bastogne, we do a brief stop at the central Square with the bust of General Mc Auliffe next to a the Sherman tank. A little further, we have the monument honouring the memory of the famous General Patton. We continue our tour and arrive in La Roche with its medieval castle and the British destroyer tank. Via Marche we drive straight to the outskirts of Dinant – the Rocher Bayard at the river Meuse was the ultimate point of the German Offensive, but they could never cross it.
Through the nice Meuse-valley till Lustin and then via the highway back to Brussels.
